Stephen Ministry

The mission of Stephen Ministry of Sacred Heart Spirituality Center is to assist in continuing God’s work on earth by preparing and supporting Christian lay people for the work of ministering – spiritually, emotionally and physically – to those in life transitions.

Stephen Ministry provides ongoing training, supervision and affirmation for Stephen Ministers during their time of service. The Stephen Ministry process encourages members of the laity to discover their own calling and gifts, and then to extend those gifts by living the Good News of Jesus Christ. During this time a deeper, more personal relationship with Jesus Christ evolves within the Stephen Ministers themselves as they strive to spread the love of Jesus through their ministries.

Christ Caring for People Through People

Stephen Ministry is a highly confidential, one-to-one, lay caring ministry grounded in Jesus’ command to love one another. Stephen Ministers are lay Christians selected, trained and supervised by their community’s Stephen Leaders. Stephen Ministers provide effective Christian care by walking beside those who are experiencing difficulties in their lives and taking the time to really listen.

Some of the overwhelming needs of people include the following:

Those who are grieving
Those who are dying and their families and friends
The divorced or separated
Those suffering loneliness or discouragement
People who are hospitalized
Those who are homebound
Those in a spiritual crisis
New parents or single parents
Victims of accidents or natural disasters. . .
The list goes on and on.

Stephen Ministers are Caregivers. . . God is the Curegiver!

The Stephen Leader & Referral Coordinators are Marty and Eileen Theys.
