Common Prayers
Morning
Offering:
O
Jesus, through the Immaculate heart of Mary, I offer you all my prayers,
works, joys, and sufferings of this day, for the intentions of thy Sacred
Heart in union with the holy sacrifice of the mass throughout the world,
in reparation for all our sins, for the intentions of all our associates,
and in particular for the intentions of our holy father recommended
for this month and for a lasting peace. Amen
O God who wills not the death of the sinner, but rather that he be converted and live, grant we beseech thee, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin, Mary and all the saints, an increase in laborers for thy Church, fellow laborers with Christ, to spend and consume themselves for souls through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, Our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen.
Take my body, Jesus, eyes, and ears and tongue. Never let them, Jesus, help to do thee wrong. Take my heart and fill it full of love for thee. All I have I give thee, give thyself to me.
Hail,
Holy Queen:
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, hail our life, our sweetness, and our
hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we
send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn
then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after
this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O
clement, o loving, o sweet Virgin Mary, pray for us, O holy mother of
God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Memorare:
Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone
who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession
was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, oh Virgin
of Virgins, my mother. To thee do we come, before thee we kneel sinful
and sorrowful. Oh Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. AMEN.
Come,
Holy Spirit:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of thy faithful, and enkindle in them
the fire of thy love. Send forth thy spirit and they shall be created
and Thou shall renew the face of the earth. AMEN.
O God, who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise and ever to rejoice in His consolation through the same Christ our Lord. AMEN.
Prayer
of Adoration:
May
the most Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, be praised, adored
and loved, with grateful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles
of the world, even to the end of time. AMEN.
For
the souls of the faithful departed:
Eternal
rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the
mercy of God, rest in peace. AMEN.
Act
of Contrition:
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all
my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they
offend Thee, my God, who are all good and deserving of all love. I firmly
resolve, with the help of thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near
occasions of sin. AMEN.
Prayer
to Mary Help of Christians:
O Mary, Most Powerful Virgin, great and illustrious defender of the Church,
Wonderful Help of Christians, formidable as an army in battle array, you
who alone have overcome every heresy in the world, in our anguish, in
our combats, in our difficulties, defend us from the enemy, and at the
hour of our death, receive our souls into paradise. AMEN.
Prayer
before the Crucifix:
Look down upon me, oh good and gentle Jesus, while before you face I humbly
kneel and with a burning soul, I beg and beseech thee to fix deep in my
heart, lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity, a true contrition
for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment. Meanwhile, I contemplate
with great love and tender mercy your five most precious wounds, pondering
over them within me, and calling to mind the words which David the prophet,
made you say, concerning yourself, O my Jesus: “They have pierced
my hands and my feet, they have numbered all my bones.”
Novena
to the Sacred Heart of Jesus:
O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore You, I
love You, and with a lively sorrow for my sins, I offer You this poor
heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to Your
will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in You and for You. Protect me
in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions; give me health of
body, assistance in my temporal needs, Your blessing in all that I do,
and the grace of a holy death.
Prayer
to St. Michael:
St. Michael the archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against
the malice and snares of the devil. Rebuke him, O God, we humbly beseech
Thee, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan and the other evil spirits who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. AMEN.
Prayer to St. Gerard for Expectant Mothers:
Almighty and everlasting God, who through the operation of the Holy Spirit
didst prepare the body and soul of the Glorious Virgin Mary to be a worthy
dwelling place for thy Divine Son, and through the operation of the same
Holy Spirit, didst sanctify St. John the Baptist while still in his mother’s
womb, hearken to the prayers of thy humble servant, who implores Thee,
through the intercession of St. Gerard, to protect her amid the dangers
of child-bearing, and to watch over the child with which Thou has deigned
to bless her, that it may be cleansed by the saving water of Baptism,
and after a Christian life on earth, it may, with its family, attain everlasting
bliss in heaven. AMEN.
Prayer
to St. Gerard in Thanksgiving for a Safe Delivery:
O Good St. Gerard, wonderful patron of mothers, deign to offer God our
heart filled with gratitude for the great blessing of children. In our
long hours of anxiety, uncertainty and doubt, your powerful intercession
with Jesus, Our Lord, and Mary, Our Queen, was our hope. Obtain for us
the grace ever to turn to thee in similar trials. Help us to inspire others
with confidence in thy gracious assistance. Aid all of us, that doing
God’s holy will here on earth, we may merit eternal life in heaven
through Christ Our Lord. AMEN.
Novena
Prayer to St. John Bosco:
In need of special help, we appeal with confidence to you, O Saint John
Bosco, for we require not only spiritual graces but also temporal ones,
and particularly (mention grace needed). May you, who on earth had such
great devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and to Mary Help of
Christians, and who always had compassion for those who were in suffering,
obtain from Jesus and from His Heavenly Mother the grace we now request,
as well as a sincere resignation to the will of God. Our Father, Hail
Mary, Glory be.
Prayer
given to St. Gertrude:
Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious Blood of Your Divine Son,
Jesus, in union with all the masses said throughout the world today. For
all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in
the universal Church, those in my own home and within my own family. AMEN.
Prayer
to St. Monica:
In Your mercy, Lord, You received the tears of St. Monica as she wept
for her son. At the intercession of both mother and son, give us the grace
to weep for sin and to obtain Your forgiveness.
